2022 Braided Hill Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine are sourced exclusively from Braided Hill Vineyard, located in the East Kelowna Slopes sub-GI of the Okanagan Valley.

Winemaking

The grapes are Dijon clones 777 and 115. They are handpicked and fermented separately by ambient yeast. After 21 days on skins, the wine goes to French Oak barrels, 25% new, for 13 months of aging. 

Tasting Notes

The wine is fruit-forward and structured with sweet spice, red liquorice, black raspberry, and cherry aromas on the nose. The palate is met with intense dark plum, cherry, clove, and subtle mushroom undertones.

Pair with Manchego cheese, chocolate-covered almonds, and mushroom risotto.

92 points. This is the debut release from a young vineyard neighbouring Spearhead in southeast Kelowna. It was established in 2020, as part of an enterprise featuring a flower shop and farm to table garden. For its youth this offers impressive colour, ripeness and decent concentration. The nose is nicely lifted and complex with classic cool climate red cherry, nutmeg barrel spice, light toast and coniferous notes. It was aged 13 months in 25% new French oak. It is medium weight (13.5%) with taut, juicy acidity, and modest tannin. A touch lean for some perhaps, but balanced for pinot, and the length is very good to excellent. 91 points. Big for pinot noir, warm climate issue out of a warm season and much of its personality shows up front. Some stems here as noted in the verdant streak, a chew of liquorice and leathery fruit, a way about it that's so very real. Solid as a rock. Drink 2024-2027.
